Nova Youth Race Team- mid season update

September 2023 – With the road racing, grass track and mountain bike season concluding, and cyclo-cross (CX) around the corner, a timely update on the progress the team has made so far.

Traveling to Rhyl, Margam Park, the Isle of Man, Winchester, Cornwall, Mansfield, Loughborough, Scarborough, Morecambe and Lancaster, Leeds and Wyke (!), the team Director Sportif and parents have been clocking up the driving, as well as the racing miles.

All this has been made possible by our wonderful sponsors. Thank You. These are Stringer Mallard (accountants), connective3 (digital marketing agency), Strive Group (connected experience agency), wsb (property consultants), OTE Performance Nutrition, and Prologue Cycles.

In its first season, the team has achieved some great results (or palmarès as the French say it):

  • 1st – Yorkshire U16 Circuit Race Championship – James Beagley
  • 1st – Yorkshire U16 Summer Cyclo-Cross Championship – Magnus Denwood
  • 1st – Yorkshire Adult/Junior Grass Track Racing Champion – Mark Ketteringham
  • 3rd – Yorkshire U14 Summer Cyclo-Cross Championship – Cormac Denwood
  • 4th – National Mountain Bike Cross-Country Series Round 3 – Cormac Denwood

….plus at least seven other top 10 national finishes in Youth Road Circuit and Mountain Bike Cross-Country races. Seven top-10s from Tom Davey at Regional Races, while juggling GCSEs.

James Beagley – with his best pain face on, on the hilly stage at North West Youth Tou in the U16s. In a super competitive category, he finished 28th on GC.

Other youth Nova racers, likely to join the Race Team in future years, have been doing well. Ross Muir, Erin Denwood (Isle of Man Youth Tour – 2 stage wins, points and GC), Ted Carey and Harry Collingwood-Cooper have all score regional road race points.  Gemma Mann, Joanne Sykes and Matt Wood have also achieved placings in their respective adult categories.

Next up: First CX race of the season in the North East; five months of CX racing to go!
