Nova Youth Ride Saturday 13.05.17

Just in case anyone missed the message...

My aim this week in planning the route was twofold:
1. To avoid getting mixed up with the Acorn ride
2. To meet up with the inaugural Nova Youth ride for coffee

The Youth ride will meet at the same time and place as the structured ride (so we'll need to make sure we don't block the pavement). The two rides will do different routes with the aim of meeting at Ripon Spa Gardens for a cuppa around 11ish.

As usual there is a 9:00 meet at the Empress pub for anyone coming from Harrogate and head down to meet the rest at 9.15 in Knaresborough on the corner of Tentergate Lane and Boroughbridge Road, opposite the Texaco garage. If you happen to be the only one at the Empress, just head straight down to Knaresborough, as most people tend to head straight there.

The format will be the same as they have been to date i.e. riding as a structured group at approx 24-26kph (15-16mph). We usually have a good group of up to 10 out on most rides (despite no one posting to say they are going to turn up ;) ) so please post if you are planning to ride so that I know to wait for you if you're late.

What's the route & distance for the youth ride? 69km looks pretty long for kids.

That's the route for the structured ride Bruce, not the Youth ride. The two rides start at the same place and meet for a cuppa (hopefully) at the same time.

Glen Turnbull has organised the Youth ride so I'm not sure of the route but I think he was aiming for flatter and around 30 miles. Hopefully he will pop up here to confirm.

Matthew (aged 14) is going and his mate Lloyd (also 14) is supposed to be going too. When I asked Matthew "is he definitely going?" he said "mmmmm mmmhhmm mmmhhmmm mmmmmmm", which I think means "I mumbled at him and he mumbled back yes", but I can't be sure as I don't speak bloody mumblish.

I'm supposed to be racing tomorrow. I wasn't going to race as I felt ill after Wednesday and if not I will go on this ride. However, I felt a bit better after a quick ride today, so I'm not sure what I'm doing. My lad is ok on his own and I did ask Glen and he said they were pretty well covered. Not sure about the route but if it's meeting at Ripon, I'm guessing something like Aldwark-Helperby-Ripon-Bishop Monkton.

After putting it into Google translate I can now confirm that "mmmmm mmmhhmm mmmhhmmm mmmmmmm", means "yes", so that's two 14 year olds confirmed.

Ha ha! Yes Lloyds mum also confirmed! :D Bruce I believe the route will be similar to the structured but a bit shorter. About 30 miles. I suspect there is room for a shorter ride but we're just going one step at a time :)

I'll be out with my two boys, Charles (13) and William 10).
Pleased Charles is now up for it as he's raging with hormones and also speaks mumblish. William is really keen.

Bruce, have you decided yet? You going out?
