A Good Week for Pete Watson and Club 50 record falls!

Event 11 of The Beech House Dental Practice TT League was met with perfect conditions for the 16 mile out and back between Boroughbridge and Walshford. Warm sunshine and virtually no wind meant that times were likely to be fast. Fresh from Ironman Austria, Pete Watson of Nova took his maiden win in the series with a stunning 32:46, 37 seconds ahead of Rob Senior, who is still hunting for his maiden win. Both riders now look set to battle it out for the overall runners-up spot behind 2017 Champion Duncan Mullier. Pete Watson also took the most improved rider win, ahead of Dave Mann. The women’s event saw Corinne Mitchell close in on retaining her title with 37:55, 1:18 ahead of Alison Sarmiento. Edwin Stokes regained the momentum in the men’s roadbike category with a win in 35:17, 3:06 ahead of Andrew Stringer in second. The next event is 18 miles and two laps of Milby-Norton Le Clay. At Open TT events Rob Senior scored a 25 mile PB with 55:43 and fifth overall in the Ferryhill Wheelers 25TT on the A19 at Crathorne. Duncan Mullier’s rest from Wednesday competition produced a record breaking performance in the BDCA 50 mile TT in Derbyshire with 1:46:13/28mph average, breaking the Nova record previously held by Steve Smales since 2014.

After a double puncture at Ironman Lanzarote in May, Nova’s Pete Watson was motivated more than ever for Ironman Austria last week. Pete completed the 2.4 mile swim in 59:41, right on schedule. The next leg was the 112 mile/180 km bike leg, where pacing is key,

two laps of the 90km circuit were completed in 2:27:17 and 2:30:10 and again right on schedule. Transition was smooth, quick dismount, dump bike, grab running shoes, ditch helmet and trot out onto the run. The marathon is where it can all go wrong  a target marathon time 3:30:00 it was completed in an amazing 3:28:59. The total finishing time was 09:32:28, 98th Overall out of 3000+, 9th in age group and 3rd Brit over the line. Needless to say there are some very talented and fast athletes racing!
