The Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Association winter Yorkshire Points series kicked off last weekend, with a bumper day of racing at Aireville Park, Skipton.  Over 450 riders, including ten Nova members, took part, enjoying the warm and dry conditions which made for fast racing.  Louis Mason was the only Nova representative in the Youth race, taking 20th placed Under-16.

In the Senior race (incorporating the men’s Senior/Junior/Under-23 and Vet-40 competitions), former National Cyclo-Cross Champion Paul Oldham (Hope Factory Racing) put on an impressive display to take the win ahead of team mate Jack Clarkson.  Oldham only recently returned to racing following treatment for a knee injury, but showed no signs of a lack of race practice, dropping Clarkson before the bell.

Edwyn Oliver-Evans was the highest placed Nova member, finishing two seconds off a podium as 4th placed Under-23.  Charles Cuss was 18th Senior; and in the Vet-40 competition, Dave Morris was 10th, Richard Hamilton 18th and Gary Marks 40th.

In the Women’s & Veterans race (incorporating the Senior, Junior and Veteran Women’s races as well as the Vet-45 and Vet-50 plus men), Kirstie Hamilton placed 4th Senior woman.  In the Vet-50 competition, Nick Mason secured 10th place with Tim Evans in 27th place.  Mike Bowman claimed a fine 6th place in the Vet-60 competition.  Round two of the series takes place in Northallerton – full report next week.

Fast Times Still Up for Grabs in Time Trialling

At the Yorkshire Road Club 50-mile event on the V259/1 course near Thirsk on Sunday morning, Tom Denwood rode to an impressive 1:51:42.  Roger Bromiley, in his first 50-miler, stopped the clock at 1:57:23 and Mike Hutchings, in yet another long-distance TT, recorded 2:14:48.
