Moderate ride - Sunday 28th October

Post by AlisonSarmiento » Tue Oct 23, 2012 7:03 pm

Hi, assuming we are not under a blanket of snow I'm planning a longer hillier ride on Sunday to remind my legs what they will need to do in the Chemo classic in just over 2 weeks.

Any takers? I'm open to suggestion on the route, but happy to come up with one if no one has a preference.

How does this look Alison. 56 miles, 5400' climb. Cafe stop at either Burnsall (maybe a bit soon) or Bolton Bridge. Langbar is optional.

Looks good John. I think my preference would be for a tea stop in Burnsall so we're not heading up Langbar with post tea stop jelly legs.

I'll keep an eye on the weather forecast as the one I've just seen looks shocking for Sunday.

Sounds good. Was thinking of doing the Almscliffe race but with my dodgy ankle I might not not be up to the running bit. (I've done this event several times as a runner for Harrogate AC many moons ago). So I'm up for the moderate ride if weather is ok.

Looks like a very good, pre Chemo route . My work keeps me busey ( B&B ) Sunday mornings, but I can be away by 10am, so depending on the meeting time I will be with you.
Rick.

10am is fine for me - I get to spend extra time in bed - plus it gives the day a chance to warm up. I've just spoken with Geoff and he's OK for 10am too so let's go for a 10am start from Knaresborough Texaco.

I noticed that John's route goes out through Harrogate so if there are any Harrogate based riders we could pick you up at 10.20 ish at the POW roundabout. It would be helpful if any Harrogate riders who are planning to come out could post on here so that we know that you are coming and we don't leave without you.

POW is well off route. I would be heading out via Knox so all meet up at top of Knox Lane outside the Knox Arms. Folk from Knaresborough can come via Bogs Lane and the Cycle path to Bilton Lane. 10.20 is fine.

OK, the Knox Arms it is then. I suggested POW roundabout because that's where the Harrogate crew usually meet and I thought it would make sense to stick with the same meeting points but Knox it is.

So the plan is:
Knaresborough, Texaco 10.00am
Knox Arms, Knox Lane - 10.20am ish

The weather looks OK so far, although possibly wetter the farther West we go and the later in the day it gets.

POW would add about 4 not very inspiring miles to the route for the Knaresborough lot. Plus I would have to do 2 miles into town and the ride back past my door. ;)
I hope it will be a bit slower than the Castle Howard ride. I don't want to get to the hills shattered. It would defeat the object.
