Moderate ride sunday 24th

Post by frosty » Thu Nov 21, 2013 6:21 pm

I will lead a moderate ride on Sunday leaving POW at 9am and for around 3hrs with potential for cafe stop.

Could go out wharfedale, quick stop at storiths cafe and then back over appletreewick, green how village and duck street?

Or could go ripon-masham -kirkby malzeard - pateley bridge, two stoops and home.

All welcome, i anticipate ride would be 17mph average depending on which route we do! I would say that the pace will be consistent and with no smashing up the hills.

17 mph average is not moderate. Especially if hilly. It means riding at around 20 mph most of the time. Even 15 mph is hard for newcomers.

Don't get me wrong, I am not leading a ride for people who have never ridden a bike before. 17mph will be no problem for most riders when heading out to Ripon/Masham through Boroughbridge which is primarily flat.

The premise of the ride is to go round in a group, no firing off up hills and everyone rolling through for short turns on the front as and when they feel like it. The quote of 17 was merely a guide which would be expected in a group but would potentially be a stretch if you were an individual.

Thanks Niall

I will be on the ride on Sunday.
Can I refer you to TK's message on the other thread. He suggests meeting at 9.30am in Harrogate which seems to me to be about right for winter rides( gives fog and ice a chance to clear) would that be a problem to you?
Also lets not get too worried about the pace in mph it might be better to say we aim to ride as a group, stronger riders taking more of the load and we make sure we dont leave any one. Initially we want to encourage as many as possible perhaps with a view to sub groupings eventually developing organically.

See you all Sunday.

Dennis :D

I am happy to change to 9.30 at POW roundabout (corner of leeds road and otley road for those not been there before).

Cheers,

I'm considering it too, but would also prefer 9 to get back for family duties. Don't worry if later is the consensus.
