There was a big Harrogate Nova contingent among riders taking part in the Spadger’s Memorial Ride on Sunday. Lewis “Spadger” Barry was a popular and talented young rider who died entirely unexpectedly on 29 June 2010 aged only 15 from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).

Now in its sixth year, the memorial ride marks his passing and raises funds for two charities – The Dave Rayner Fund (a charity dedicated to helping budding talents achieve their dreams) and C.R.Y. (Cardiac Risk in the Young – a charity dedicated to raising awareness of SADS).

The 50 mile circular route, based on Lewis’ favourite training ride, started and finished at Lotherton Hall, and saw 1,200 people take part, from age 8 to 80, including two former World Champions,  Olympic and Commonwealth Games Medallists, professionals and amateurs.  For more info see the Lewis Barry website.

The Yorkshire Points series took a week off due to the National Trophy races, there was still some ‘cross racing to be had with an event at Newsome High School, Huddersfield – results new week.
