First TT League Champion Crowned & Racing Round Up

The Beech House Dental Practice Evening TT League crowned its first 2015 Champion on Wednesday night. Duncan Mullier claimed the League title for a second time, recording 40:23 for two laps of the 9-mile Milby-Cundall-Norton-le-Clay circuit. Duncan’s win means he also retains the Vet-40 League title.

Simon Cave took runner up spot with 41:51, with Dave Morris in third (42:21). There were top five spots for the first time for Huw Spacey (43:13) and Charles Cuss (44:01).

In the Ladies event, with Jess Bacon going off-course and failing to complete the event, Alison Sarmiento took the win with a time of 48:31. Julie Patmore placed second with 48:48 and Lisa Dinning was third (53:24).

In the Vet-50 competition, Walter Busuttil took top honours with a time of 45:02. Mike Shacklock was the fastest Vet-60 (49:30) and Walter Wilkinson the quickest Vet-70 (45:59). Junior Harry Wrightson knocked almost six minutes off his previous League course best to record 51:31.

Racing Round Up

In Open Time Trials, long-distance specialist Mike Hutchings was in action again only a week after his 340-mile 24-hour effort. Mike took part in the Team Swift 12-hour event at Melbourne, near Market Weighton, East Yorkshire, completing 216.13-miles in his allotted time despite poor weather conditions. Walter Wilkinson was in action in the Team Swift 50-mile TT run alongside the 12-hour event. Walter recorded an excellent 2:04:22 to finish in sixth place on the V350 course.

At the Rossington Wheelers 25-mile TT at Hatfield Woodhouse near Doncaster, Steve Smales recorded 54:17 to claim sixth. Second-claim Nova member Jess Bacon (York Cycleworks) was the leading lady at the Melton Olympic CC 25-mile TT held at Farndon, Cheshire. Jess recorded a time of 58:23, finishing 36th overall from a field of 100.

A trio of Nova members took part in Round nine of the Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Association CX summer series held at Almondbury, Huddersfield. Richard Hamilton placed 11th in the Vet-40 competition; Ted Sarmiento was 24th Vet-40 and Tim Evans 6th Vet-50. The series concludes with Round ten at Kippax on 5th August. With riders best seven results counting towards series honours, bragging rights are at stake.
